New Media is constantly changing and new additions always arise. With each advancement, the society strives to make everyday tasks as well as complex tasks simpler and more convenient to do. Though this form of "new media" may be out of reach due to not all restaurants (especially mom and pop businesses) using online websites and apps, it would be a great idea to develop a mobile application that allows users to know exactly what the wait times are for restaurants near them. In addition, it would allow users to reserve a table without having to call in or walk in. This would benefit customers as dinner plans are sometimes made at the last minute and many high-end restaurants require reservations. Also, customers are able to utilize the app to know which restaurant has either no wait time or a short wait time and decide where to go. The app could include the restaurants full menu along with pictures to give the customer a better perspective of the ambiance of the restaurant and what they could be served. This type of new media would be beneficial for just about anyone, in particular "foodies" so they would know when is the best time to try out new restaurants.
Hi Connnie,
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea!! I am definitely that person that makes last minute plans and this new technology is something that would be very useful to me. I have had the experience of walking in somewhere hoping that I would be able to be seated right away, and once I take the time to get there, I am told that there is a long wait time. Then I start considering less appealing alternatives that I know are fast or easy to get to being that I do not want to waste more time looking into other places only to get the same results. Having an application ahead of time, that provides real time data to consider what places to go to and where I will be seated right away as well as how busy they are, is something I would use. This should also not be limited to restaurants but other businesses as well such as salons.
