New Media is constantly changing and new additions always arise. With each advancement, the society strives to make everyday tasks as well as complex tasks simpler and more convenient to do. Though this form of "new media" may be out of reach due to not all restaurants (especially mom and pop businesses) using online websites and apps, it would be a great idea to develop a mobile application that allows users to know exactly what the wait times are for restaurants near them. In addition, it would allow users to reserve a table without having to call in or walk in. This would benefit customers as dinner plans are sometimes made at the last minute and many high-end restaurants require reservations. Also, customers are able to utilize the app to know which restaurant has either no wait time or a short wait time and decide where to go. The app could include the restaurants full menu along with pictures to give the customer a better perspective of the ambiance of the restaurant an

Blog: Wiki So Far

So far I have been working on the Entertainment page by updating and adding onto the sections "Big Hit Entertainment" and "Chinese pop". Additionally, I have made changes to the YouTube page by adding a section on the YouTuber "PONY". I have also made contributions by editing the appearance of images on this page. On the "Big Hit Entertainment" section, I have added more information on the status of their group BTS. On the "Chinese pop" section, I have provided more information and updates on the group Nine Percent such as their disbandment and last concert. I have created a new sub section under "YouTube Stars, Culture, & Advertising" for an uprising YouTuber and have provided her stats for her page. From here, I am working towards adding more content on the Advertising page such as adding social media platforms and on pages that interest me.

File sharing is the process of transferring and sharing information/data across a network or the Internet. By utilizing file sharing, users can share files easily regardless of location difference, etc. As stated by the article "P2P file sharing", P2P file sharing is a peer to peer file sharing which allows individuals to access media files using software program that searches and locates computers that have the file that is wanted." Users of P2P file sharing are able to share files to one another through a software program. Through this, users are able to transfer music, texts, and movies. Some examples of P2P file sharing are Gnutella, where users can send a request for a file, wait for the software to locate the file, and download the file; Napster, where thousands of audio files donated by users are contained on the server; BitTorrent, where users swap movies, songs, and shows illegally; and many others. If I were hired by Baruch College to improve the college, I would first work on stabilizing and expanding the WiFi network. In most cases, the WiFi is unavailable to be connected, even if connected the WiFi does not work, or simply there is no WiFi. Baruch needs to work on having more than one WiFi option as thousands of students and staff are attempting to use one network. Another suggestion I would make would be to make all information easily accessible. Though Baruch currently uses various web pages for their departments, users are required to click into multiple pages to finally find what they need. For example, when looking for a specific form, users would know to look for it under "Forms" instead of browsing all over the web to not find it (something I have experienced various times). Baruch also lacks a platform for all students and staff to get into contact. Though classes meet mostly twice a week, students do not get into contact with each other. In the case of missi

New media encourages users to get into contact with others across the world, opens doors to opportunities, and share content. When users sign up for an account on the web, they are asked to agree to certain terms and agreements. Such terms are usually long and require time to read through, thus most users do not read it and give their consent. In said "contracts", there are sometimes ridiculous terms such as Amazon's clause concerning a zombie apocalypse for lumberyard materials. In other cases, not reading terms and services could lead to consequences such as possible privacy and confidentiality issues. When users utilize new media, they are putting themselves at risk of exposure of private content and loss of confidentiality. Their activity on the web can be monitored by companies that use the information to their advantage. These companies could use it to aid in their marketing efforts and/or sell it to other entities. Hackers over the internet could get private inform

As online chatting becomes more apparent in society, more accounts on various platforms are created daily. To separate one profile to another, people will tend to create avatars, uploads pictures, and generally, have something that would greatly distinguish their account from others. Other than that, many platforms such as Bitmoji (which has since been acquired by Snapchat) enable users to create personalized cartoon avatars of themselves. Bitmoji can currently be linked to be used on Snapchat, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Slack, and Gmail. Nowadays, there are many websites that allow for creating a personalized avatar. Below are three such examples using Avatar Maker (a Google Chrome extension), Avatar Maker (avatarmaker.com), and Avachara (avachara.com/avatar/). The avatars could be as simple or as fancy as the user wants depending on what he/she wishes to use it for and/or how much he/she is willing to pay for extra features. In the past, I remember creating individual avatars

HW Creativity

New media has taken over a huge part of society in that people refer to new media platforms for news, entertainment, research, etc. Many people take to new media to show off their creativity such as by remixing a song, composing a song, sharing photos, etc. For example in the article "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?", users edit clips of Disney films to make a music video or create a comedic video. With new media, users can constantly be inspired to do something and have a platform to share their work over the internet for others to see. With the huge influx of social media's presence, people utilize new media to show their comedic side. They create memes, make short videos on Tik Tok/Vine, create parodies of celebrities/current events on Youtube, etc. Similarly, they can turn to games where they can create avatars and develop a new life and explore the alternate world. Whatever they make might not be realistic, but it allows them to test their c
